Legal brush clearing (OLD)
Your legal obligation, handled end to end across the Luberon.
In wildfire-risk areas, clearing brush around your property isn't optional — it's a legal obligation. I take care of it for you, whether you're here or abroad.
What is the OLD?
In exposed Vaucluse communes, the law requires clearing brush within a radius (often 50 m) around buildings, plus along access roads. The goal: slow the fire and protect homes and emergency services.
Who is concerned?
- Owners in or near woodland (the Luberon massif)
- Second homes, even if used only a few weeks a year
- Holiday lets & gîtes
- Undeveloped plots in the affected areas
What I take care of
- Clearing the mandatory 50 m around buildings
- Raising tree canopies and thinning crowns
- Removal and disposal of green waste
- Completion certificate for your commune / insurer
What you risk without clearing
If you fail to comply: formal notice, a fine (up to €1,500, sometimes more), clearing carried out at your expense, and a real risk to your insurance cover in the event of a claim.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I'm concerned?
It depends on your commune and how close you are to woodland. Send me your address — I'll check and tell you clearly what applies.
I'm only here in summer — can you work without me?
Yes. I work while you’re away, then email you before/after photos and the certificate. Perfect for a second home.
When should clearing be done?
Clearing must be done before summer and maintained year-round. The easiest option is a scheduled annual visit.
